Promeco takes part in SMM Hamburg 2026 with its own stand
Promeco is taking part in the world’s leading maritime industry trade fair, SMM Hamburg, on 1–4 September 2026 with its own stand as part of the Finland Pavilion. At the fair, Promeco will present the full scale of its electrical and mechanical expertise, as well as its ability to meet the tightening requirements of the maritime industry. CEO Ville Ritakorpi and Sales Director Hanna Pahkala explain what is expected from the fair.
Finnish maritime expertise on display in Hamburg
Every two years, SMM Hamburg brings the entire maritime industry together under one roof. The event is expected to attract more than 2,000 exhibitors and tens of thousands of professional visitors from around the world. For Promeco, participating is a significant step, as the company last attended an international fair with its own stand in 2019.
“Our role in the Finnish maritime industry has grown, and we deliver increasingly significant electrical and mechanical packages to companies in the sector. Now is the right time to raise our profile and to present our expertise and our work at our own stand,” Pahkala says.
Promeco’s stand is part of the Finland Pavilion, which brings together several key companies of the Finnish maritime industry.
“The Finland Pavilion is an excellent place for us. We complement well the overall picture that Finnish operators offer to this sector,” Ritakorpi says
The maritime industry has become one of Finland’s most significant export sectors, with a turnover of around EUR 12 billion, over 90 percent of which comes from exports.
Aiming for new contacts and stronger recognition
The fair is an opportunity both to gain new contacts and to deepen existing customer relationships.
“We want to reach new companies and people, but it is equally important to meet our existing customers. When everyone is on site, encounters happen naturally. At the same time, we want to strengthen our brand so that people associate Promeco with the maritime industry the moment they see the logo,” Pahkala describes.
A key objective is to make the full scale of Promeco’s deliveries known.
“Sometimes we notice that not everyone is aware of the full breadth of what we do. One person knows that we manufacture sheet metal products, another knows us for electrical systems. At the fair, we want to bring out everything that belongs to our offering,” Pahkala continues.
Ritakorpi also highlights the expertise that the company wants to stay in visitors’ minds:
“In this sector there are many regulations and requirements that are constantly tightening. We need to be even better and able to guide the customer in many matters. If visitors leave with the impression that we know what we are talking about, we have succeeded.”
Electrical and mechanical solutions from a single partner
Promeco’s core message at the fair is combined electrical and mechanical expertise, which brings concrete benefits to customers.
“We can make our solutions ever more modular, which increases cost-efficiency and usability. Since we carry out the mechanical design and manufacturing largely ourselves, that is a clear advantage for the customer,” Pahkala says.
The combination of in-house manufacturing and design is reflected especially in the delivery speed.
“When the integration is done in-house, it is fast. In customer projects, the initial data is often incomplete, and the schedules are tight. To be able to respond to that, our recipe has proven to be a good one,” Ritakorpi notes.
Cybersecurity and end-to-end responsibility set Promeco apart from the competition
Over the past year, Promeco has invested heavily in electrical solutions, ensuring to meet the tightening cybersecurity requirements of new vessels.
“In the construction of new ships, the cybersecurity requirements are strict, and not all market players are up to date with them. This year, we are investing significantly in being able to offer the customer a solution that fully meets the requirements, and a little beyond,” Ritakorpi says.
At the same time, Promeco can take on increasingly comprehensive responsibility for deliveries.
“We can support the customer throughout the entire process, from the early phase of the project to implementation, testing, and commissioning,” Pahkala describes.
Promeco meets customers with an international approach
Promeco serves its customers internationally, and the fair stand will be staffed by people from the company’s various units, both from Finland and Poland. Good discussions are expected with shipyards, integrators, procurement, designers, and technology directors, among others.
“We want to understand even better what kinds of needs different vessels and applications have. We are looking at the fair for indications of which direction we should develop our own offering,” Pahkala says.
The discussions are expected to address, for example, the need for solutions in the defense sector, hybrid solutions, and issues related to energy consumption.
“The sector has heavy regulation that drives the reduction of the carbon footprint and fuel consumption. These themes come up with our customers almost daily,” Ritakorpi notes.
The future of the maritime industry is increasingly electric and complex
As vessels become electrified, the systems become ever more complex.
“A good example is a cruise ship that set off from Turku in June, which has around eight million parts. The level of requirements keeps rising, and we have to be able to meet it. For example, a power distribution system of the kind we deliver is right at the heart of a ship’s technical systems. It is controlled from many places and supplies energy to many places, so its criticality is emphasized,” Ritakorpi describes
Responding to demanding entities requires expertise throughout the entire organization.
“From sales to design, project management, quality, manufacturing, and testing, strong expertise is needed. We have a large team involved in these deliveries,” Pahkala says.
Promeco’s solutions are closely linked to the electrification trend, and the company wants to stay a step ahead as the requirements change.
“We have done a great deal of work and invested, for example, in cybersecurity. We follow closely how the requirements develop so that we never fall behind,” Pahkala sums up.
