Solving problems and improving quality together

Jutta Mäki works as a Quality and Environmental Engineer at Promeco’s Vaasa unit. For Jutta, quality work is about more than checking the final product. It is about solving problems, understanding root causes and developing ways of working together.

Quick facts

Name: Jutta Mäki
Role: Quality and Environmental Engineer
Location: Vaasa, Finland
Joined Promeco: May 2025
Team: Quality team
Focus area: Operational quality, supplier quality and environmental topics
Promeco in one word: Forward-looking community
One thing people might not know: Jutta enjoys fixing things and renovation projects.

From studies to quality work

Jutta graduated as an Energy Technology Engineer from Vaasa University of Applied Sciences in May 2025. Before joining Promeco, she had already gained experience in the energy and technology industry, including through an internship in project engineering.

She first heard about Promeco through a friend. The role caught her attention because it connected technical understanding with something she enjoys, finding out why things happen and how they can be improved.

“I have always been quite precise, and I enjoy finding root causes and solving problems. In that sense, quality felt like a natural direction for me.”

When Jutta started at Promeco, she was positively surprised by the scale and variety of the company’s work.

“I did not know Promeco beforehand, even though I am from Vaasa. When I came here, I realised how much is actually done here. Promeco may be a relatively small company, but the overall impact is much bigger than I expected.”

Quality in everyday work

Jutta’s workdays are varied. Some of the work takes place in meetings and development projects, while some happens directly in production. She supports everyday quality topics, works with supplier quality and is involved in projects related to packaging legislation and environmental development. This can mean investigating a production deviation, clarifying requirements with suppliers or finding better ways to prevent recurring issues.

“No two days are the same. Part of the work happens in development projects, and part of it happens directly in production, where we solve everyday quality questions together.”

For Jutta, one of the most interesting parts of the role is operational quality, how production deviations can be reduced and how processes can be improved. The work requires technical understanding, communication skills and the ability to discuss even difficult topics openly.

A place to learn and take responsibility

Jutta feels that Promeco has offered her room to grow. She has been trusted with responsibility, but support has always been close when needed.

“A willingness to learn is one of the most important things. You learn the work by doing it, asking questions and staying curious.”

The work community has also played an important role. Jutta describes Promeco as a close-knit and practical workplace where people help each other and where mistakes are seen as opportunities to learn.

“It feels like there are no stupid questions here. Someone is always willing to help and explain.”

Her view of manufacturing has also changed. Before entering the field, she thought of manufacturing mainly as halls where people make things from metal. Now she sees how much expertise, technology, responsibility and cooperation are involved.

Her message to someone considering Promeco is simple: be open-minded and apply.

“Promeco is a smaller company with a big character. There is a good team here, a good way of working and many opportunities to be involved in different things.”
