Teuvo Halonen at Promeco: Finance at the Core of Business

Teuvo Halonen joined Promeco Group as Chief Financial Officer in spring 2024. As an experienced finance professional, he has quickly seen how Promeco’s focus is firmly on the future, and how the openness of a family-owned company is reflected in everyday work.

Teuvo holds master’s degrees in both economics and food sciences. Since 2001, he has worked in various financial roles, from accountant to CFO, across companies of different sizes and ownership structures:

“I have experience from smaller private equity-backed companies as well as larger listed corporations. In my previous role, the company was sold to a French group, and after the acquisition, I felt ready to take on new challenges.”
When the opportunity at Promeco came up, Teuvo had discussions with the CEO and Chairman of the Board.

“Our thoughts aligned right from the start,” says Teuvo Halonen.

Development Through Structure and Systems

Halonen describes Promecon’s financial operations as forward-looking rather than reactive.

“Finance used to be seen mainly as a historical bookkeeping function. Today, we’re an active part of the business, modeling the future from a financial perspective and producing data to support decision-making.”

Over the past year, Promeco has made significant changes in its financial organization. Each subsidiary now has a controller familiar with the local business environment, while accounting has been centralized to external specialists in Finland and Poland.

“This has clarified operations and enabled our controllers to focus more on supporting the business and reporting,” Halonen explains.

At the same time, Promeco has renewed its financial reporting system, introducing major improvements in forecasting, automation, and data-driven management.

“The system gives us tools to produce more accurate and up-to-date information to support decision-making. We act as true business partners for company management, procurement, IT, and HR,” Halonen notes.

Open Culture with Low Hierarchy

Halonen describes Promeco as an open and approachable workplace:

“Even though we’re already a fairly large company, hierarchy isn’t visible in daily life. Everyone can communicate freely, and the team spirit is strong. The company’s family roots and culture of working together are clearly present – and you can really feel it.”

For Teuvo, people and collaboration are the best parts of his job.

“Regardless of title or role, everyone welcomed me warmly. It’s also rewarding to see team members succeed and find meaning in their work – that motivates me as well.”

From Good to Great

Promeco has grown rapidly in recent years, and Teuvo Halonen believes the role of finance will only become more important. Maintaining strong financial performance requires continuous development.

“Our goal is to be even more closely involved in business development and to create added value for other functions.”

Originally from Tampere and now living in Nokia, Teuvo looks forward to new projects, development initiatives, and shared successes:

“Promeco has a bright future. It’s great to be part of building it.”
