IF POSSIBLE, LEARN SOMETHING NEW

The future is not always clear. Therefore you should always ponder what you want to do for a living, what kinds of things interest you. That has been a good mantra for Juha “Kamppi” Kamppikoski, switchgear assembler at Promeco. He has a 15-year career behind him, and the versatility of his work has been a richness. Now he has had the opportunity to study something new, and he has a new vocational degree in mind. “I’m completing a vocational degree in production technology. Graduation is only lacking a couple of skill tests. After that, I want to work in the Yrityspuisto, the production unit of Promeco.”

FROM ONE SECTOR TO ANOTHER AND FROM SCHOOL DIRECTLY TO PROFESSIONAL LIFE

Before joining Promeco, Juha was piling up vacuum cleaners and worked for a short period as a computer support person. His first career goal was a full-time job in the computer industry, but one another field was attracting him even more – doing things with his hands and working as an assembler. When Juha was at home helping with the farm work, he got a call from the school. Someone had quitted a switchgear assembling course, and they were offering the place for him. There was no need to think twice, and he still is on that path.

“Everyday life is not just about hard work, but the work is done with a goal in mind and with a good spirit.”

Juha has now assembled electrical cabinets as a switchgear assembler at Promeco. As a multi-talented worker, he has performed multiple tasks during his Promeco career – working on sites, assembly and installation work, laser cutting, welding, and even robot welding. According to Juha, testing the discomfort zone and learning something new is always a good idea. Trying and doing is the only way to see if it works or not. That is especially important when everything seems immutable. “I once tried travel work simply because it took me into an area of discomfort.”

Juha thinks that one of the most significant experiences he has been able to test his skills in different ways is the camera change project made for Helsinki trams. There was a strange fog in the tram cameras that needed to be clarified and fixed. During the project, all the trams were review by Promeco. The trams were equipped with a lens heating system and electricity. The project was long and challenging, but it was still very successful. In the end, both the customer and we were satisfied with the result.

CARS BRING COUNTERBALANCE TO WORK

The civilian side says a lot about the person. Family is a big part of a father’s life, but hobbies are also needed. Cars belong to Juha’s life and especially the refurbishment of old vehicles. Renovating a potential summer car in the garage gives him joy in wintertime. The feeling, when the car is ready for the summer, is so accomplishing. This winter, however, Juha has spent more time on the moped project. His son will get his moped license next summer, and the vehicle must be fit to drive by then. “That is important for my son.”

COLLEAGUES GIVE STRENGTH TO EVERYDAY LIFE

When working with like-minded people, work becomes more valuable. According to Juha, Promeco has a relaxed atmosphere made by the co-workers. Life is not just about hard work, but the work is done with a goal in mind and surrounded by a good team spirit. It is nice to come to work every day, and with these new challenges, days tend to go by quickly, too.
