Promeco Attends the UN Global Compact Sustainability Group

Promeco has been selected to join the UN Global Compact SMEs Sustainability Group. The company’s goal is to develop its expertise in sustainability together with 14 other Finnish SMEs from different industries.

The goal of the sustainability group is to increase participants’ knowledge of sustainability through expert presentations, company examples, and group discussions, as well as through independent study. The group’s first meeting took place on Friday, September 6th, in Helsinki, and they will meet a total of six times over the next six months. From Promeco, QEHS Director Heidi Hakala, and Head of Supplier Development and Sustainability Erika Luukkonen participates the meetings. Hakala explains that the company applied to participate to develop its own practices.

– We wanted to learn about other organizations’ sustainability work, their best practices, and deepen our own expertise while discovering the best practices for us.

Each group meeting focuses on sustainability in accordance with the UN Global Compact’s Ten Principles. The first meeting covered the topic of Double Materiality Assessment, which is crucial for compliance with the European Union’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).

– Double Materiality Assessment is a hot topic for us at Promeco, so it was very beneficial to be able to discuss it with other experts.

In October, Promeco will conduct a stakeholder survey and interviews with a few stakeholder contacts. Hakala encourages anyone interested in participating in these discussions to reach out.

– In the survey, we will gather key insights that will form the basis for our 2026 report, in line with the CSRD directive and ESRS standards. We hope to receive as many responses as possible to develop our activities around the key themes in line with stakeholders’ expectations.

The next group meeting will focus on environmental responsibility. Other upcoming meeting themes include social responsibility, good governance, and the fight against corruption, in line with ESG.

– Our main goal is to learn the best practices for implementing sustainability work from these meetings.

Promeco has been a member of the UN Global Compact since 2017 and has been committed to its principles ever since. The company reports its sustainability actions to the UN Global Compact annually.
