Exercise Brings Energy to the Workday
Well-being at work is a key part of Promeco’s everyday life, and physical activity is a key tool in promoting it. Collaboration with Juha Rantanen, a fitness instructor from Jämi Sports Oy, has introduced new ways to incorporate activity into the workday. With over 20 years of experience in workplace fitness, Rantanen now leads regular exercise sessions for employees at two factories in Kankaanpää.
Exercise Breaks for All Employees
At the Kankaanpää factories, employees gather twice a week for 10–15-minute exercise breaks. Depending on the size of the team, participation ranges from 10 to 60 employees, with high overall engagement. Rantanen believes that the most important thing is not perfect technique but taking a moment to move and step away from work.
“The movements are designed to suit as many people as possible. We focus particularly on shoulders and lower back, as they are common problem areas for employees,” says Rantanen. “We use a variety of equipment, but the movements are kept simple and easy to follow.”
The exercise program is constantly evolving. Movements and exercises are tailored to fit the day’s pace and participants’ needs. Flexibility is key to success. “One sick day can easily cost several sessions,” Rantanen points out. “Good well-being pays for itself.”
The Role of Leadership Encourages
Supervisors play a significant role in exercise programs. Their participation not only increases visibility but also inspires employees to join. “The power of supervisors’ example is enormous. When they participate actively, it motivates others,” Rantanen says.
In recent years, leadership participation has increased, and employees even compete to see whose team has the most participants. Employees have also started asking for additional tips on improving their well-being and greatly value the program.
Well-Being is a Team Effort
Rantanen emphasises that developing well-being at work is a joint effort between the company, the work community, and individuals. The company can offer opportunities, but the employees’ own activity is important. He encourages employees to think about what well-being means to them and share their ideas with him or their immediate supervisor.
“When employees, the work community, and the company work together on well-being, the results are at their best,” Rantanen sums up.
At Promeco, exercise breaks are more than just movement—they represent community, teamwork, and a step toward better workplace well-being.
