Employee stories
From mechanical design trainee to part-time employee at Promeco
After a four-month internship in mechanical design, Tommi has continued as hourly work alongside his thesis and other studies.
Tommi Silvennoinen, who started his internship at Promeco in May 2024, has been introduced to a diverse and educational work environment. After a four-month internship in mechanical design, the work has continued as hourly work alongside his thesis and other studies.
Work duties
Tommi completed an internship in mechanical design, during which his tasks included updating production parts and solving problems that arose in production.
“My tasks included drawing the models of the Gideon project and designing smaller parts needed in the project”, Tommi explains his tasks.
The internship ended in August, and now he is focusing on his thesis related to product information management.
“I was delighted to be offered the opportunity to work hourly at Promeco alongside my studies. The work is related to the Gideon project and the thesis. I also do tasks related to production and other projects whenever necessary. I am pleased with the arrangement”, Tommi says.
New PDM system
The thesis aims to implement a new PDM (Product Data Management System). This system will modernise product data management, such as drawings and models.
“The aim is to reduce duplication and speed up planning. Later, the system will also link to production, which will ease the sharing of product information”, Tommi says.
Metadata collection and documentation will play a key role in the development of the system.
Flexible and versatile working environment
Promeco has provided Tommi with a flexible working environment, which has enabled him to combine work and studies smoothly. The reception was warm, and colleagues quickly helped get to grips with the company. “Very well received” describes his experience of the workplace well.
“It has been nice to see how Promeco invests in students. One of my colleagues is pretty much at the same stage of studies. It’s nice to exchange ideas about both work and studies”, Tommi says.
Working at Promeco is diverse, and it never gets boring, as there are always new challenges and things to learn. Tommi also finds it particularly useful to get to know the production concretely and to work with many different people.
“Before starting my internship, I did not have a clear picture of what Promeco was about. Little by little, the tasks became more familiar. Siberia does teach us”, Tommi laughs.
According to Tommi, Promeco has proven to be an excellent workplace that supports the growth of new professionals and offers diverse opportunities at different stages of their careers.
